The theory of colours

Spanning over six decades, the paintings of Swedish artist KG Nilson explore the meaning of colours and how they relate to each other in endless combinations. Influenced from an early age by the concrete art movement, his images are mainly non-figurative but use recognisable symbols and forms to highlight the character of the colour.

Typical KG Nilson motifs include fictitious maps and aerial perspectives, city skylines, a simple and archetypal house, isolated islands and repetitive geometric compositions, with the triangle shape as a recurring theme. His images are pure and exact, almost mathematical, yet tempered by a human warmth which inspires the imagination.
