      brand Paraboot

Paraboot is an iconic French footwear manufacturer with over 100 years of experience in high-end shoemaking. Founded in 1908 in Izeaux, a small village at the foot of the Alps, the family-owned company has epitomised ‘Made in France’ quality during four generations.

The brand gained its reputation thanks to the family’s commitment to traditional craftsmanship combined with an innovative approach. One of the company’s most notable developments, and a distinguishing mark of Paraboot footwear, is a vulcanised rubber sole that is glued together in layers.

During a visit to the United States, founder Rémy Richard became fascinated with a new type of shoe – the waterproof rubber boot – and even more by latex, the raw material from which it was made. Richard decided to replace his wooden soles with soles made from fine rubber, which could be sewn to the shoe upper and glued with liquid latex to a thicker rubber sole. The new construction offered both superior flexibility, good traction and waterproofing properties.

The brand name Paraboot was registered in 1927 – derived from ‘Para’, a port on the Amazon where latex was exported from, and the ‘boot’ shoe he had discovered overseas. Classic Paraboot models include both mountaineering and hiking boots, as well as elegant and everyday shoes for men and women.
