A number of new easy-fitting overcoat designs appeared during the 19th century, including the Raglan, Ulster and Chesterfield, tailored for travelling or outdoor activities.
Early models of the Chesterfield, the first civilian overcoat, contained several changes that remain characteristic for modern examples – understated cut, dark wool, short vent, centre back-seam, single-breasted fly front, side pockets and no cuffs. Above all, it dispensed with the previously obligatory waist seam and was meant to be worn loosely over another garment.
program 2-in-1 series™
The 2-in-1 Series™ is based on the idea of transition and the need to adapt to the often unpredictable weather of the changing seasons. Inspiration comes from military garments, constructed in separate layers of shells and detachable liners that can be combined to suit different weather. The series contains two groups of outerwear garments, one of outer layers made with functional fabrics to protect against wind and rain, the other of insulating liner jackets and vests.
Both layers are constructed as complete individual garments and can be worn separately. But they are specially designed to fit into each other and may be combined freely within the series. Zipped into a coat or jacket and snapped at the neck, the liner becomes a true lining and the light outer layer becomes a fully padded winter coat. The zipper system is fixed, so that new and old garments from different seasons will always fit together.
