history Fishtail parka M-1951

The ‘fishtail’ parka was developed in the late 1940s as an ensemble of separate and detachable parts to provide flexible protection against extreme, changing weather conditions. The most common version of the 1951 parka consisted of a light, water-repellent shell layer made of a cotton-and-nylon blend, a button-in mohair liner and a fur-lined hood.

The outer shell could be worn without the liner in milder temperatures. It featured a thin, permanently attached hood, two diagonal pockets and a covered zip.

The parka was designed oversized to fit on top of a full uniform, and was made to withstand temperatures below -10°C. The fishtail shape is due to the split in the back, where drawstrings on the bottom hems were intended to be tied around the legs for added insulation.

program 2-in-1 series™

2-in-1-series

The 2-in-1 Series™ is based on the idea of transition and the need to adapt to the often unpredictable weather of the changing seasons. Inspiration comes from military garments, constructed in separate layers of shells and detachable liners that can be combined to suit different weather. The series contains two groups of outerwear garments, one of outer layers made with functional fabrics to protect against wind and rain, the other of insulating liner jackets and vests.

Both layers are constructed as complete individual garments and can be worn separately. But they are specially designed to fit into each other and may be combined freely within the series. Zipped into a coat or jacket and snapped at the neck, the liner becomes a true lining and the light outer layer becomes a fully padded winter coat. The zipper system is fixed, so that new and old garments from different seasons will always fit together.
