The unisex collection of children’s outerwear is built up in layers to suit different and changing weather. Made for play and everyday wear during the autumn, winter and spring seasons, the separate pieces are designed in simple colour scales with comfortable and allowing fits, to function both practically and aesthetically as combined layers, as well as with the overall assortment.

Using soft merino wool, recycled polyester, Thermore® Ecodown® and high-quality stretch nylon, the outerwear range combines the functionality level of high-performance garments with a modern aesthetic.

The collection contains three layers. A ‘base layer’ of merino and recycled-fleece jumpers provides a warm and dry base, close to the body, while liner vests and jackets can be used for added insulation. The final-layer pieces take inspiration from classic outerwear designs, such as the rain coat, ‘fishtail parka’, wind-breaker and padded ski jackets, and are made with durable water- and wind-resistant shell fabrics for free play in all weathers.

Designing a unique yarn for ARKET knitted fabrics means that the construction of a garment begins at the fibre level. This yarn, made from organic merino-wool fibres, runs through the entire collection and functions as the foundation of each style.

The fibres are spun in two directions with different amounts of twist to produce a yarn with optimal balance and strength. The yarn is then knitted in a variety of tensions and textures, which results in the same construction serving essentially different versions depending on the combinations of yarn count (weight and fineness) and gauge (number of needles per inch).

Based on a mathematical formula, the combinations have been developed for each knit to achieve the best possible performance from the natural raw material. By customising both yarn and knitting technique, it is possible to go beyond conventional qualities and create completely distinctive knitted fabrics characterised by durability and firm body.

Mélange yarns are made with top-dyed fibres of different shades, spun together, and are used to create heathered and luminous knitted fabrics.

From the French word meaning ‘mixture’ or ‘medley’, the process of creating mélanges has a smaller impact on the environment than dyeing a finished cloth.

Dyeing and blending fibres before spinning saves water and energy, reduces emissions and creates subtle variations that result in a much deeper, richer colour.
