history Workwear blazer

The unlined workwear blazer is a garment created for simplicity and function, originally intended for use by managers on a factory floor. It has large patch pockets to carry many things, and was made from heavy, durable fabrics to offer protection and practicality.

Every detail on the workwear blazer was chosen for its utility and to save on costs. The four patch pockets were stitched on very simply – with the seams visible from the inside – and the cuts generous. It has a three-button closure on the front, and no buttons on the cuffs. And it was often made from heavy moleskin cotton well suited to its industrial application.

Tailoring Unconstructed

Unconstructed tailoring is used to create relaxed and easy-to-wear blazers or coats. It has no lining except for the sleeves, so you can see all of the seams on the inside. For this reason, the seams are binded – a sign of quality and craftsmanship.

These types of pieces also have fused details like the hem, collar and inside lapel. Fusing is when a thin layer of fabric is seamlessly attached to the back of the blazer fabric in order to provide support and structure.

Cotton, cotton blends and wool are typical materials used for this construction method. For both men’s and women’s pieces, unconstructed tailoring offers a casual and natural silhouette for everyday use.
