Iris hantverk - afroart - syuro - turtle bags
To complement the assortment of our modern-day market, we handpick products from brands and makers around the world who share our belief in supporting local craftsmanship and want to contribute to positive change.
The history of Iris Hantverk is closely connected to that of the visually impaired movement and community in Sweden, dating back to 1870 when a workhouse for visually impaired craftsmen was founded in Stockholm. The core of today’s business is the brush-binding factory in South Stockholm where six visually impaired craftsmen from different cultures make brushes by hand, working with the same traditional techniques that were used over 100 years ago.

Afroart was founded in Stockholm in 1967 with the aim to support craftsmen and women in Africa and, in later years, also in Asia and South America. With a flagship store in Stockholm and a number of retailers across Europe, Afroart sells handmade home décor items, textiles, stationery and unique artworks. By collaborating directly with the artists and craftsmen, Afroart ensures that the majority of the profit is returned to the producers and communities.
Located in a traditional manufacturing district in East Tokyo, SyuRo collaborates with family businesses and local artisans to create a collection of beautifully made everyday objects. The brand is based on the spirit of monozukuri , a unique Japanese concept and approach to craft. The word translates to ‘making things’ but is infused with wider implications. It contains both soul and skill, continuous improvement and a search for perfection in simplicity.
Turtle Bags was established in 2001 to raise awareness of the hazards of plastic waste in the ocean. Motivated by news that sea turtles often mistake plastic bags for jellyfish – their favourite food – the company decided to start making environmentally friendly, reusable bags to offer an alternative. In addition to its concern for the well-being of sea creatures and the environment, Turtle Bags is also committed to Fair Trade practices and ethical supply chains.
