VEJA is a French footwear brand that works directly with small producers in Brazil and Peru to produce eco-friendly trainers.
Founded in 2004, VEJA is a Paris-based footwear brand with a strong social and environmental engagement. Combining a sustainable design approach with unique production practices, VEJA empowers small producers and cooperatives in Brazil and Peru.
Their trainers are manufactured by unionised workers in Rio Grande do Sul, the southernmost state of Brazil. The brand uses ecological and regenerated materials such as Amazonian rubber for the soles, organic cotton or recycled plastic bottles for the upper. To help secure the income of small-scale organic cotton farmers, the company pre-finances 40 per cent of the cotton it purchases in Brazil. The leather used for the trainers is traceable and guaranteed to come from farms where cattle breeding does not contribute to deforestation.
For its logistics, VEJA partners with Aterliers Sans Frontières, a reintegration association in France. Every year, AFS helps about a hundred individuals to find a job and regain social stability while engaging in sustainable community activities.
