Afroart collaborates with artists and craftsmen to develop home décor items, textiles, stationery and unique folk artworks. The majority of the profit is returned to the producers and their communities.
Afroart was founded in Stockholm in 1967 with the aim to support traditional craftsmanship in Africa, and in later years also South America and Asia.
With a flagship store in Stockholm and a number of retailers across Europe, Afroart sells handmade home décor items, textiles, stationery and unique folk artworks. By collaborating directly with the artists and craftsmen, Afroart ensures that the majority of the profit is returned to the producers and the communities to further their economic development and to provide educational opportunities according to the Fair Trade principles.
Since 2003 the company is run by six Swedish textile designers working closely with the communities to develop products that combine artisanal techniques with contemporary aesthetics. All items sold by Afroart carry a story that speaks of their unique origin and the people behind the creation.
