087R material Recycled cashmere

The recycled cashmere ARKET uses is made from surplus fibres from the manufacture of virgin cashmere yarn that would otherwise have been discarded. The recycled yarn is spun by twisting together two strands in different directions, to achieve strength and stability as well as softness. It is then knitted with customised settings to accentuate the fibres’ natural properties. This process utilises raw cashmere more efficiently, reducing waste of a natural resource.

The recycled cashmere ARKET uses is made from surplus fibres from the manufacture of virgin cashmere yarn that would otherwise have been discarded. These waste fibres are of the same premium quality as conventional cashmere, but are available only in limited quantities. The supply varies from season to season depending on the amount of leftovers procured, and the fibres are never re-dyed but rather are made into new yarn in their original colours.

Cashmere wool comes from goats in the mountainous regions of Asia, where cold winters have caused them to grow thick coats. The soft down from the undercoat is removed by combing each spring, when the goats shed naturally. The very thin down fibres make knitted cashmere soft, silky and significantly warmer than sheep’s wool.
