Brand Iittala

iittala logo

Internationally recognised for bringing the aesthetics of simplicity and functionalism into glassware during the interwar period, Iittala was founded in 1881 in the small village of the same name in southern Finland. Through its collaborations with progressive designers like Aino and Alvar Aalto, Tapio Wirkkala and Kaj Frank – who shared a belief in useful and rational beauty, and that everyday objects should be accessible to everyone – the company has been fundamental to the reputation of Finnish mid-century design. The long-lasting items created during this distinctively modern era, including Aalto’s iconic flower vase and Sarpaneva’s cast-iron pot, remain the foundation and inspiration of today’s Iittala.
