The Guppyfriend washing bag is a filtering solution that prevents microfibres from polluting our waters. Created by German non-profit organisation STOP! Micro Waste, the bag collects shedded fibres from synthetic textiles during laundry and keeps them from being rinsed down the drain. It also reduces friction between the garments, which prevents them from shedding, and extends the lifespan of your clothing.

STOP! Micro Waste is a German non-profit organisation initiated by Langbrett, a group of surfers and nature lovers with the mission to raise awareness about microplastic pollution. Their patented Guppyfriend washing bag is a filtering solution that helps to prevent microfibre pollution in the oceans.

Friction between the garments causes textiles to shed broken fibres into the wastewater during laundry. These tiny pieces of fabric eventually end up in rivers, oceans and other bodies of water. If they’re made from synthetic materials such as nylon or polyester, they will not biodegrade.

The Guppyfriend washing bag is designed to filter the wastewater already in the washing machine. It ensures that the microfibres are collected instead of rinsed down the drain, and thus prevents them from ending up in our oceans. The bag also reduces friction, which prevents them from shedding, and helps extend the lifespan of your clothing.

1 Put your synthetic textiles in the Guppyfriend washing bag. The bag should only be half full.

2 Close the bag and wash as usual.

After washing, take out the wet textiles from the bag.

The released microfibres will have accumulated at the hems and corners inside the bag. Collect them carefully and dispose in your regular garbage.
